A light kitchen remodel

It's not often I get to do a smaller scale remodel with just a handful of improvements, but sometimes that's all you need to make a space become your own. This client loves to cook, so of course she spends a lot of time in the kitchen. Although this family home is fairly new, they were never fond of the kitchen finishes that came with the home. The counters were tiled and the backsplash was only a mere 4 tall. These were the areas that needed to be improved upon.

The goal was to improve upon the work surfaces, add modern touches and soft neutral tones to balance out the wood tones and add some character. These home owners love rich wood tones so we decided to add a beautiful walnut butcher block top to the island. Then we paired this with a concrete terrazzo style quartz on the side counters. We chose a sleek tile for the backsplash and laid them in stacked columns to add a modern vibe.

While we were replacing the counters, it was the perfect time to upgrade the kitchen sink and faucet. We installed a composite under mount sink in a taupe tone to blend with the other new soft neutrals. The new two toned faucet by Brizo is simple yet bold in style. It adds an industrial modern feel and ties in so nicely with the new island linear chandelier, also in black and gold tones.

One last touch was to replace all the silver cabinet knobs with black knobs. It's a small detail but altogether these touches created a new kitchen feel that matched the homeowners style. These cosmetic updates make the kitchen feel more in line with the family who lives here now.

"Before" the finishes were not matching the homeowners style.

The new finishes included: a tile tile backsplash, quartz and butcher block counter tops, a single basin sink, modern faucet, hexagon linear chandelier, and black cabinet hardware. The result was a more functional kitchen that matched the home owners personal style.
