This mudroom makeover was designed to do a lot within a limited footprint—accommodating laundry, utility storage, coats, a hydration station, and even a discreet home for the family’s kitty litter box.

We began by stacking the washer and dryer to open up valuable floor space and relocating the sink to create a more efficient layout. Custom cabinetry was then designed to extend to the ceiling, maximizing storage while keeping everyday household items organized and out of sight.

 

Every cabinet was thoughtfully designed around the way this family lives. The custom sink cabinet conceals the kitty litter box and includes a pull-out shelf for easy cleaning access. Nearby, a pull out cabinet keeps both garbage and fresh litter neatly tucked away. The tall utility cabinet features a built-in electrical outlet for charging the family’s electric broom, providing a dedicated home for cleaning tools while keeping them readily accessible.

 

The aesthetic direction began with the clients’ love of the striking black-and-white porcelain floor tile. From there, we developed a crisp, timeless palette of black cabinetry, white walls, and warm gold accents. Carefully selected hardware, hooks, lighting, and

accessories add layers of character to the hardworking space.

 

One of the most functional additions is the chilled water bottle filler. This allowed the family to eliminate their water delivery service while freeing up valuable floor space; a small feature with a meaningful impact on the everyday function of the room.

Finally, we incorporated a meaningful family heirloom: a vintage dog sign that belonged to the homeowner’s grandfather, who bred Border Collies. With a Border Collie of their own, the piece felt like the perfect finishing touch for this black & white mudroom, bringing a personal connection and a bit of family history into the newly designed space.
